How To Sell Advertisement On A Sexual Content Site

January 19, 2016 by John H Leave a Comment

Buying Advertisement

Selling advertisement on your website is a lot like selling land. Every inch of your website is prime real-estate for the right advertiser. Of course, no one would buy land in a backwater area. Nor would people buy land in what looks like a bad area. People want the best value for their money.

The purpose of advertisement is for possible future consumers to see it. You could argue that there are only two things advertisement has to achieve in order to be successful: reach a large audience, or the right audience for the product; be memorable to the audience.

It’s your job to make this viable before anyone will want to purchase space on your website.

You need traffic. If you have a new website, don’t even bother trying to get paid advertisement. If your website is new, the best you can hope for is reciprocated advertisement from a website with similar value.

You need to spend your time building up your database of content, gaining organic links to your web pages, and submit links to your content on high traffic sites.

Once you start to see some continuous traffic to your site, you can get down to searching for advertisers.

When putting adds on your website you need to ask yourself “is this relevant?”. Having ads for day-care on a sex blog is crazy. Having ads about food on a sex blog is silly. Having ads about sex toys, sex clubs, adult dvds, enhancement pills, etc, is marketing gold. You need to tailer your advertisement to the content. The more traffic you get, the more relevant the ads, and the more clicks the advertisement gets, the longer that customer will continue to pay for said advertisement. Hell, you could even put your prices up if everything goes well.

A good way to sell advertisement on a website is to categorise all of your content. Once you have done this, go out and gain organic links leading to pages relevant to where the link originated from (if there’s an ORGANIC link on a sex shop comment section leading back to your website, make sure it’s leading to the sex toy articles on your site). Once you have done this and have gained some traffic to each category, you’re able to sell personalised advertisement on every web page on your website. Do you have a category for your bondage articles? You can sell adds leading to a local dungeon, or a sex shop specialising in bondage. Do you have a category for your foreplay articles? You can sell advertisement leading to a shop selling scented candles and oils, or a shop selling clitoral stimulators. Do you have a category for your articles about porn stars? You can sell advertisement leading to a VOD site, or even a shop selling physical copies of the movies those actresses/actors were made famous in. The possibilities are endless.

The most valuable real estate on your website is your homepage. This is where the majority of your traffic will be. Your home page shouldn’t be cluttered with advertisement.

More important than advertisement is the user experience. You want people to come back to your site. You want them to feel as if your website design and layout are welcoming and trustworthy. Nothing says ‘scam’ and makes people close a webpage faster than a dozen ads on the homepage. I mean, after all, are you here to make money or provide a helpful service for people? The answer is the former, of course, but you don’t want to appear that way. The best way to appear to be providing a service for the public is to do so, just make your advertisement discreet. The best way to make advertisement discreet? Make it something relevant. The more relevant it is, the less likely it’s going to seem out of place. The more relevant it is, the more likely people are to click on the link.

So, to recap: First step is content, and organise the content into categories to make it user friendly and more valuable as ad space; you then need traffic, and the best way to do this is by gaining organic links and getting your content out there to be noticed (can be time consuming (more than a year)); you then need to find advertisement that is relevant to your content. Job done. Keep the content coming, and with it, the traffic, and the money will continuously roll in.
