This week we are doing an article about the trends of adult shopping in the US and adult shop future and how it translates to Australia. We have for years been talking about the mainstreaming of Adult Shops in a recent article by AVN magazine many of the top executives talk about what’s happening in retail in 2016.
As many of our readers know our little magazine has been at the forefront of some great Adult incite and in our opinion this article is a must read for Adult shop owners and managers alike. What many of the managers are saying is they are generally doing quite well.
Basically there is a split in some of the models the businesses are using for instance some shops DVD sales are dropping while some are growing. For instance hustlers retail CEO Says”.
“People will always buy DVDs in my opinion, but the inventory and the footprint has to be relative to the demand. I see a lot of retailers out there still merchandising 30-40 percent of their floors with DVDs and it boggles my mind. I know DVDs can’t be contributing 40 percent of their business. We inventory and merchandise our stores according to what the customers want to see and experience. We are increasing our inventory of toys and lingerie. Those two categories go hand in hand for us.”
Adult shop future depends on service
Then another important bit we have picked up on is how a retail store competes with online stores. Basically you can compete with massive qtys of stock and exceptional customer service. But there are some cracks, because of the sheer qty of sex toys being created and many looking the same and doing the same thing. Many manufacturers are dumping their excess and undercutting on Amazon for instance.
Our take from the article is, keep quality stuff stay as competitive as you can, and stock your shop. Then offer really awesome service and advice.
