Hey all at Adult Wholesale , I am hoping you may be able to help me out with some information for my partner and myself, We have $75,000 to $80,000 and we want to start up our own adult store, as I have worked in them 
for a fair few years and all of a sudden being casual when it gets a bit slower in the year they let a staff member or 2 go. We are trying to somehow stabilize our future and open our very own store. In time we hope to make sure we cater to each individual’s tastes and body sizes etc to help ensure it is different from everywhere.
We are located in Brisbane Qld and I do have a couple of areas that could possibly be looked into for an adult store . My question is where and how do i start? I know our cash flow is not as much as recommended for a start but I’m honestly hoping with a little luck and hope we will scrape in with a little to spare . I do know of some people starting off a very long time ago with only $200 to their names and are now rather successful this is what helps me hope we also can. Is there any adult store franchises left anymore ? 1 of my former employers tried to convince me to buy into his franchise which seems to be slowly becoming more unknown. The money we have is every single cent we have as now neither of us are working and my partner has an injury. We do not own any property to be able to approach a bank for a loan either !!! PLEASE HELP ANY ADVICE GREATLY APPRECIATED .

Dear Reader thanks for the confidence nice question. The simple answer would be NO (here’s why). If was you I would use your money to go into a business that is not swamped. From your letter, 80 000 is all your savings and you need to remember the sex-toy business is tough I will give you an Idea of what you are up against. Please don’t get me wrong I love the sex toy business and believe there can still be money to be made. but starting a shop in a massively crowded market like Brisbane is a shore way to lose it.
Working for yourself can be very rewarding but betting everything on sextoys you will lose it. For your situation, I would recommend going into something that you can start for low cost and is not getting smashed by ebay. Sound like you need to make money fast. Here’s some Ideas in a growing market.
- Dog walking , in Home pet minding ( $2000 business cards ,flyers ,website)
- Aged Care (training course) renting walkers , helping
- Ironing. House business cleaning.
These are simple low-cost things you can do part time with another job while you stabilise your situation. There used to be luck and hope in business and you could just put up a shop and customers would come. But now your sex toys shop is not just competing with your local competition people check the price online even before they come into your store. Or they check the price while they are shopping.
Buying a Sex Shop Franchise
Some time ago I did some research into buying/selling a franchise but if you spend the next week driving around all the sex shops in Brisbane you will get an Idea on how tough business is. Then you add your franchise fee’s and boom you have a proportion of your money gone before you started.
