When doing anything online you have to keep two things in mind; the customer, and the SERPs (Google). In that order. There is nothing more important than a user-friendly website. If you forget about SEO, but have a one of a kind user experience that people love, you will excel on Google, regardless. However, you should always try to make your website as SEO friendly as possible, without compromising your user experience.
Yes, even a product review should be SEO friendly, and you should have this in mind with every paragraph your write. You need to have the correct keyword in the right place (product name), but don’t over saturate the review with it. You need to have links in the right place (a link to another product on your site, as an alternative product), image in the right place (always good to have pictures of your products. Don’t forget to add alt tags with the keyword), and make sure you have at least 300 words of content for the review (original content is the best SEO practice you can use).

You should structure your product review (anything your do online, really) with those SEO practices in mind, but you should never butcher your review to get those things done. If your review comes across as dry, or force, then you may loose the person you’re really trying to reach, your customer. If you have to force an alternative product suggestion into your review to get the link, then forget the link. All of content should have the appearance and feeling of being completely organic material. It should feel as though you’re simply talking to them, not trying to force keywords down their throat as if they’re a robot.
Always be honest. With social media and other social communicating outlets so easily available for all of your potential customers to see, being called out as a liar or fraud is a game ender. You want people talking positively about you and your products. You don’t need people going around saying you sell the “World’s greatest pies!”. You need people going around saying “These pies are great, and I will be coming back here again”.
Structure your product review as if Google is your school headmaster. But write your review as if you’re writing to someone you genuinely care about. And, please, god, please, do not just copy someone else’s description…that includes the description on the box.
